My boss is not a great person and likes to belittle any female in the workplace for having to take the given time off. Appointments during the work day “should only be done over your lunch hour” or “after 5” even though you make up the hour you miss for one. I’m sure you all know the type. My senior position coworker literally just had brain surgery on Friday and my boss came in guns a-blazing Monday morning bitching to everyone else in the office because the coworker took more time off to recover and wasn’t sending emails to our clients and leaving my boss to speak with them. What??
Every time I call in to use my PTO sick time, it is because I have a migraine. My migraines literally immobilize me, any noises made are amplified about 100x (it seems), I cannot keep my eyes open because any light sends pain pulsating through my head, and all of this is accompanied by literal tender pain in my neck and head and eyes, and nausea that is made worse by trying to deal with looking at light and listening to anything. If I don’t stay in bed and sleep it off I literally throw up and cry uncontrollably from how painful it is. They are severe and frequent. More frequent with stress.
Texting my boss that I would not be in due to another migraine (I’ve used about 1/2 my allotted sick time for 1/2 the year so far) he responds that “we need to have a meeting and discuss this” when I return tomorrow, as he is “becoming concerned this is becoming frequent.”
No shit Sherlock. I have told you I get frequent migraines. And I can’t control them. Medicines don’t work and I can’t just suffer through them and actually get work done. He has never had a migraine so has no idea how awful it is.
I told him “I wish I could control my migraines, but unfortunately I can’t.” And now I’m excited for a conversation that will stress me out more, where in reality I should simply tell him “If working here wasn’t so awful and stressful due to how you treat all of us, I wouldn’t have so much stress and my migraines would be trigged far less, and I can’t even manage the stress because the job gets in the way of that.”
I hate working here.
