Throw away because I don’t want this post on my main account which includes other work related posts.
I’m a first year manager at smallish firm (~40 people) and directly manage 3 people. Our year end is 3/31 and as a manager this is the first year I have been in the discussions around the Company's financials and determining my employee's financial rewards.
Sitting down with the CEO and he let me know that the Company experienced 45% revenue growth from last year and over 50% profitability growth. His recommendation for the 3 employees I manage was a 2% raise and $250 Amex Gift Card bonus. I was shocked. I suggested increasing that due to a number of factors (inflation, how hard they worked, the amazing performance of the Company) He flat out said no, said that they should be happy with what they get, happy to have a job and they don't deserve to be rewarded for the hard work the top performers produce.
I almost quit on the spot. I was never used to great year over year financial improvements at this job in this department but I always thought that we were being rewarded in line with he Company's financial position. That is clearly not the case and now I see how our CEO thinks of us as workers. I have no motivation to do work for this individual anymore. I hope this is not how all of corporate America is but the more stories I read on this thread the more I believe this is the case.
