I took the next two weeks off for my wedding to have some time on either side of it to get ready and then decompress (no honeymoon for now unfortunately). My manager's manager sent me an email at the beginning of the week asking if I could come in the Monday after I get married on Saturday for a team picture because we were awarded one of the “Best and Brightest” places to work in the area.
I know you're on vacation next week. I can reschedule for when you're back unless you're willing to come in for the team photo. Let me know. No pressure if you can't. I can schedule it for when you're back, but I had to ask. 🙂
I of course said please reschedule, and that was the end of it. Fast forward to today, and the CEO of the company (we're a kind of small marketing agency) wanted to chat for a second because he needed help with something. It started with a short butter up about the wedding before RE-EMPHASIZING how cool it would be if I came in for that picture on Monday because “we could have it done a month early, and that'd be great.” He then proceeded to delegate all of the internal IT responsibilities to me including overseeing our IT partner, overseeing the internal computer budget, among other things. I'm a web developer, so I guess that means I'm the IT guy too? I told him sure without asking for a raise because…
YOUR BOY ALREADY HAS A NEW JOB. It just doesn't start until June 13th, and I can't quit yet because bills and wedding. I landed the job 3 weeks ago for considerably more pay, PTO, and benefits including WFH. I am the only web developer here, and for those who are hip, it's really a full stack PHP position being paid like a VERY junior front-end developer (45k). My new job is strictly front-end for a lot more.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this total horseshit with you all. The CEO wrote a blog post recently about how it's bad to put your starting rates in your job advertisements and how candidates don't really care about that. I can't wait to tell him that I went for this new job specifically because they posted their actually competitive salary in the job listing.
