I used to work for a very large retailer in Switzerland. My salary was decent, but still below average compared to government data in my bracket (education, work experience etc.). Benefits from said employer used to be top tier in the 90ies, but by now most other companies have caught up. (Far above anything across the Atlantic, but obviously still years behind Scandinavian levels.)
Now here is the thing that really got on my nerves. My boss always told me how grateful I should be for what is guaranteed by my work contract or Swiss labor law in general. Things such overtime compensation or the fact that we can work from home (well we were obliged to work from home by the government, but anyways).
I provided my labor, and did what was required of me -and more- (I automated a lot of things that were still “updated” manually in 2020, some of it with an error rate of ~80%), in exchange for a payment that we both agreed upon in a contract. This is what a work contract is for. Defined labor in exchange of defined payment. No need getting teary eyed about it.
People here making the same experience?
Also do you think I am right, or should I have been more grateful?
