I (normally) work as an IT guy, and typically earn a low six figure income. Nine months ago I finished working because the company I worked for merged, and I was a casualty of that. Which was fine, I was happy to leave, and take some time off. I lived on savings, spent time with friends, got married, things like that.
The bitcoin price crash shortened my reserve money a little, so I've been looking for a new job for the last month or so. The industry and sector I work in is very matured in how it approaches job hunting. Applying for roles is usually two mouse clicks, then a phone call, then an interview. In my couple of decades of working at around 10 different companies, I've never had a reference followed up, never had to give any proof of anything.
Currently cash is getting a bit tight, so I've been looking for some part time work to keep me going while I'm looking for something.
What an absolute shitshow! for around £10 an hour (I'm in the UK) there are so many forms, so much paperwork, so much proof of who / what I am.
I understand there is a need to check I am allowed to work here. So a passport / P45 I understand. but I've had requests for huge lists of things as well. driving licence (non-driving job) proof of address, previous wage slips (as well as p45)
I just don't understand why it is so complicated! I want a job, not a mortgage
