I hate my job. I’ve been on the verge of calling it quits everyday for the few months. I wonder if small-ish companies are all like this. Makes the rules up as things come up. Tethered to the desk like a slave. No lunch room offered so basically can only eat at my work station. On top of that, my manic boomer manager is a control freak that needs to hear himself talking. So can’t make calls on my lunch break to follow up on anything personal in my life. I have to instead walk outside the work compound if I feel the need to make a personal phone call.
For context, I’ve been working here for 2 years in the construction industry.
It’s like high school here. There’s no hr dept. there’s a coworker here who has more power over the day to day than my manager. But she hates me for whatever reason that I do not care for. I wanna quit. The work environment here sucks. It boggles my mind that these guys had been employed her for over 30 years. I feel like the benefits sucks bc I can’t even have human decency(breaks, going to the bathroom, etc.
benefits here include a week of vacay, 2 sick days, free breakfast and lunch, paying holiday even if not at work( eg. July 4th, paid in full), medical and 401k was offered but it honestly wasn’t that good.
I can’t seem to wrap around my head if these are great benefits or if these old people were just happy and satisfied with any ol job. Or is it that you can abuse your boss and coworkers but loyalty is the most important.
Back to me, Idk how I should proceed? I had been bumping heads with my manager bc I’ve been calling him out on fucked up shit he’s been doing since feb. The situation involves another coworker being forced to consume like 3 lbs of chocolate everywhere week since feb. I don’t understand how it’s funny to do something like that. I had retaliation but ofc I can’t prove it. I know by past behavior on how situations had been handled. So my question is Should I write my 2 week notice in like 1-2 weeks? I’m switching to another profession. But I should leave on good terms to get a good recent recommendation letter right?
