why does my employer think my private assets should be available to them?

I'm in the process of having my work laptop replaced, and surprise surprise, they do not have the model I requested available. The “workaround” that they gave me in the meantime is to use a virtual desktop on my personal computer. We were told to work from home during Covid, but never received any kind of stipend for home office setup or home internet. We DID get our bonus for the year taken away, as well as reminders at the beginning of every meeting to make sure that our home office was set up with ergonomics in mind. How can they justify telling me what my home setup should be when they didnt provide any funding for it?

I'm tired of my job thinking it's okay to make these constantly encroaching demands on my private items/space. Their cost saving measures are essentially dipping into employee pockets at this point and they think we're too stupid to notice.
