I just saw the post about Starbucks being able to give a huge bonus, the implication being that they are being greedy. It’s important to know that this is how the system is SUPPOSED to work! It’s not greed, it’s fulfilling an obligation. A corporation‘s obligation is to it’s shareholders, and it will do everything to maximize shareholder return. Everything. The only “good” things corporations do are to increase profile, retain people, get free publicity – I.e. things that will increase their market share and therefore increase share price. That is it. That’s how it’s supposed to work.
Thats why the only way to make a corporation do the right thing is through legislation. Cap executive compensation. Mandate profit sharing with employees. Raise minimum wage. Improve protections across the board,
Or tear it all down and replace with something better. Some form of democratic socialism seems most promising.
