“Additional duties”

This has been on my mind for the last few days, and I’d love some input. Been working for a small company for almost six months. I was hired to do accounts payable, which was immediately expanded to accounts receivable, bank reconciliation, and monthly reporting. That’s cool, it’s in my wheelhouse. No raise, eh that’s ok, I’ll stick with it because I get to with remotely, and hopefully I’ll be recognized at some point. This week I was abruptly informed by not-my-supervisor that I’d be taking over purchasing materials for the company that at absolutely vital to the every day operations. I’m like, what? No one told me that. But she’s so relieved because it’s a pain, and she doesn’t have time to do it. Great.. Few days later the owner calls me and is like, oh don’t worry, this is really nothing.

But if you don’t order these four, I mean six, different things from the right suppliers at the right time and keep track of shipping and lead times, you’ll “get screamed at”. He used that phrase like five times.

This is all in the midst of just finding out my kid has COVID and now I do too, so my brain is on slow mode and I’m not really feeling like arguing. Plus I need time to process.

Now that it’s been a few days, I really need to take this up with someone. My boss is different than the owner. I like my boss, but he isn’t gonna side with me. I don’t know whether to ask for more money or just tell them I don’t want to do it, lol. I really don’t want to do it, and also don’t think they’re gonna pay me more.

Luckily I’m in a position where I don’t need this job, but it definitely helps pay the bills and I like not feeling tight on cash.

Anyone been in a similar predicament? Advice, solidarity?
