I joined this sub about a year and a half ago. At the time it was roughly 250k members, we are now at 2 million.
All the signs, statistics and indicators clearly point to one thing: people simply aren’t being paid enough to live. And yes, LIVE not SURVIVE. There’s a key difference here. Why has this sub grown so quickly? COVID and WFH has made people in the millions realise they are spending their lives working miserable, dead end jobs for NOTHING. There is no incentive to work 50/60 hour weeks for minimum wage, which here in the UK by the way is a pitiful £9.50 an hour.
“Well then people are lazy and don’t want to work!” scream the boomers and older generations. I’m sorry but a quick google search will tell you that house prices in the UK rose 9.6% this year. The average price is currently £274,000. Inflation is at a record high for the past 100 years. Explain to me how anyone on minimum wage is supposed to make ends meet in this country.
Find a higher paying job! What does this statement even mean these days? People are stuck in pointless, meaningless jobs where they aren’t even seen as human beings. There is zero hope for progression in some of these companies. The nepotism is fully cemented, the status quo is built and heavily fortified. You are not going to get into these high paying roles.
Have a quick look at any jobs website and compare the salaries to the average house price and cost of living in your area. This isn’t a work ethic or laziness issue, it’s simple logical decision making. Why would anyone want to work their ass off to still be poor. It’s absolute nonsense. Human beings deserve more than this.
I urge everyone to challenge these ridiculous viewpoints wherever you see them. The statistics are in your favour. The morals and ethics are in your favour. This joke of a system needs to end.
