I got fired for not fixing the date order on an Excel sheet.

Basically what the title says. My (now former) boss asked me to reverse the date order on an Excel sheet we had, so instead of it being from Feb-May, it would be May-Feb. Initially I’d asked if I could keep it that way since it was easier for me to keep track, but her response was “it’s not easy for me to keep track, so change it”. This was on Monday, and there were a million other things that took priority over this, so I decided I would fix it during my shift today. Well. I walked in this morning and not even five minutes after walking in I was asked to come into the front office, where I was sat down, thanked for my work, and fired. When I asked why, I was told it was because I “didn’t follow protocol”. This all happened in front of another coworker…

Well.

I walked in this morning and not even five minutes after walking in I was asked to come into the front office, where I was sat down, thanked for my work, and fired. When I asked why, I was told it was because I “didn’t follow protocol”. This all happened in front of another coworker too, which made it 200x more humiliating for me. Afterwards, I was asked to return my building key and leave promptly. All because my former boss decided not doing a formatting fix on an Excel sheet immediately after she told me to do it wasn’t good enough. I also found out that I’d been locked out of all of my files last night. I’ll admit, I’ve screwed up a couple other times at this job (internship/work study), but was always told that mistakes were understood and forgiven. Not this time, I guess. Now I have to scramble to find a different job so I don’t lose my work-study benefits. :/
