So, here is the deal; long story made short, I've been working in a high end hotel's call center for the last 4 months. Pay is great, but I had to call in sick a few times due to some allergy related symptomps, and all those times I made sure to carry a doctor's note to show that I was not making anything up. Seemed that my supervisor was ok with that.
Now, yesterday I had a family emergency. My mother, who had been misdiagnosed, was suffering from severe dehidratation/anxiety due to severe food poisoning. This happened just a few hours before my night shift.
A few family friends and a emergency doctor came in to help. Meds for something similar to tiphus were prescribed. My mother, though, was asking to be taken to hospital, but we managed to calm her down. In the meantime, I called to let the supervisor on floor know I would arrive late to my night shift because of the current situation.
This process of calming my mother down, and for her to go to sleep, had me arriving one hour and a half late to my shift. After three hours working, I received a phonecall from my mother, she was again having a serious panic attack, and she was already making some phonecalls to my relatives, telling them that she felt she was not going to make it.
2 am I had to go back, contain my mother's panic attack, took about an hour. She then went to sleep again, and I decided to stay in case something came up.
I wrote an email to the night shift general manager, letting him know about everything that happened. He made it very clear that I was a candidate to being suspended due to the fact that this was my third strike in one month. Even though I made it clear that it was a family emergency, which I did not plan, and before that, all my previous absentisms were backed by paper.
Now I had to explain all of this to the sup. On floor on wendesday, and from there administrative sanctions will take place. Like, I'm going to be suspended for caring about my family. F** them.
