Long story short: we got an instruction from head quarter to compile a report with a four month time frame. My boss don't care much for reading incoming emails, missed the instruction and only discovered it two weeks before the deadline. We argued that it would be impossible to deliver a report to the expected standard in only two weeks and asked him to request an extended deadline. He refused saying it is impossible and that he wouldn't even ask. We busted our asses, worked over the weekend and on a public holiday to complete our inputs to it. He then forgot all about sending it in, it was only three weeks later when one of the staff reminded him of it that he finally submitted it (three weeks we could have used well to improve the report). To top it off, he apologised to HQ for the low quality of the report by saying that it was due to staff working remotely.
I'm in anger, and couldn't hold it in anymore so I replied (including to his bosses) that his comment was not very accurate and that it would have been possible for us to do a proper job if we had been granted the appropriate time (detailing the date the instruction was sent, and the date we were delegated the tasks), and that I assume that from now on he keeps an eye on the mailbox so that no more instructions are missed.
He is also always telling me how replaceable we are and that our knowledge and institutional memory isn't really that important. I think he is wrong. I'm so sure about it I'm willing to pick this fight with him. I'm done taking shit (this not the first or only issue we have with him).
Looking forward to facing things at work tomorrow.
Rant over.
