I find it devastating that we continue to let employment be based on employer preference. It doesn't matter how hard you'll work, or how much you need the job to continue to live. If you aren't charismatic enough to make a good first impression, you're fucked. If you aren't attractive enough, you're fucked. If you have a visible tattoo, regardless of how tasteful it is, you're fucked. If you happen to be pregnant, you're fucked. If you're a senior citizen, you're fucked. If you don't share the same ethnicity as the employer and they're just a little bit racist, you're fucked. Ever see a non-asian working at panda express? I bet you haven't.
Sure, there are laws to prevent discrimination, but there's no real way to enforce them when there's no proof of why you didn't get the job. But it's like an inside joke that you know and they know why you never had a chance to begin with.
How did we let our society embrace such a system where it's a privilege to be allowed to sell your soul?
