Seeking advice. I made a post earlier today about coworkers staging a walkout from the grocery store with the hibiscus logo.
I was not fully aware of the situation at the time and am not aware that it happened ed because of failure to disclose info regarding a threat that a crew member made to this store, claiming that he would shoot it up.
This incident happened on Wednesday. They withheld info from us and closed the store early the next day. No one was aware aside from hushed rumors. Today, friday, we come into work demanding clarity and asking if we are really safe. Tons of call outside. They said they could not guarantee our safety. If we feel unsafe then leave. So we did.
Now they are refusing to release a formal written statement detailing the events of this week. Managers have called certain crew members individually. Misinformation is spreading like wildfire. No one knows what is true aside from the fact (witness accounts) that the threat was made. We dont even know for sure if hes in custody. They said he was but after anonymously calling police they said they have no record of this in their reports.
I drafted a message to HR pleading with them to give us an official written statements detailing the timeline of this week and providing info on how they have handled and resolved the threat so we can return to work safely. It seems they're afraid of the paper trail.
Most of us cant afford to miss more than a day or 2 of work. Any safety and legal advice would be greatly appreciated. We are fearful for our lives and our careers.
