I was working at a historic theatre as a part of a team of 4. Manager, assistant manager, me, and coworker. LOVED IT.
Well during October things started looking up for the theatre after Covid problems. We were doing our big Rocky Picture Horror Show event, numbers were going up, etc etc
When i worked on the 28th, nothing amiss. Everything normal. Then on the 30th… I get informed the owner is shutting us down ‘for the month’ starting the 1st. One? Day warning.
I’m patient. I waited that month… and then another month. End of December the manager messages me and tells me he and the assistant manager have been let go, not even informed by the owner, BUT BY THEIR REPLACEMENTS.
As far as they knew, myself and coworker weren’t included. We never heard anything about it.
Got my T4 a couple months ago, all good. Then I saw that the owner put the theatre up for sale…. so I asked for a Record of Employment to get EI.
He sent me a copy of my T4. Which is NOT an accepted Record of Employment.
Asked him again and got no response. Legally, he was supposed to provide it within two weeks after my last shift… its been half a year.
I’m beyond upset and stressed. Can’t find a job, been looking for months, and unless he submits the ROE I can’t get government help.
Fuck you Mike. Hope you go broke.
