Basically as the title states- two weeks ago i started working part time at a new job. First off I was doing EVERYTHING. Cleaning mini fridges, organizing water, writing sensitive patient info, creating social ads, checking out people and so much more. all things that weren’t discussed beforehand. I was under the impression the job was receptionist/admin work. I was sick today but still came in because It’s only technically my 3rd week (or 7th day) of work and didn’t want to look bad. plus it’s a small business and I worked with the owner 1-1 everyday. They made me work knowing I was sick and then proceeded to tell me that I wasn’t as fast as previous employees in terms of the delivery of social posts. I was 1) taken aback because technically I wasn’t even supposed to come in today and 2) confused because I was never directly told “you’re fired” or “i’m letting you go” but got a paycheck and was told by the boss they’ll text me if they need me in the future??? The employer was paying me in checks and listed me as a contract worker. They never once discussed the timeline of my employment and would tell me previously that they were glad they hired me. I’m confused if it’s bc i underpreformed today due to being sick and feeling horrible ( and coming in on my off day). This feels so horrible and makes me confused about what happened. I know it’s a small business and they said they were hiring someone else who can assist with writing up applications that I guess I wasn’t qualified enough for but it seems so sudden. Also i’m trying to be as civil as possible while writing this but my boss def took advantage of my kindness and made me do SO much stuff I wasn’t getting paid enough for. (not to mention they were a big micromanager and anal about meticulous details). They also tried gaslighting me when they made mistakes and tried to act like it was my fault. Im so pissed so sorry. A bit of a rant/question out of embarrassment and confusion
