I’m a little speechless. My position was eliminated…

I was an operations manager of critical facilities at a data center. Think critical power and cooling. The VCs that acquired us last year took us private along with another company they acquired and created a new company. They know nothing of owning a data center. They use “the cloud” for everything but the DC I managed for the last 6.5 years was included in the sell. I literally prevented any downtime for the past 6 years. Uptime at a tier 4 level with tier 2-3 equipment and redundancy. I’ve had zero support for year since our department was somewhat of the odd department out. I’m pretty sure my position was “eliminated” because in the IT department I was one of the highest paid managers, 148k and the VP I’ve been reporting to for the past month since they eliminated my director has a “product delivery” buddy that needed more responsibility.

Critical Facilities is an on the job department and this other guy will now be remote.

The irony of all this, with some simple logic changes and more targeted alarming, I could have saved them 250-300k per year in energy costs and with capex investments of 200k or so increase that to over 500k annually conservatively. It’s too bad the engineering and proof cases showing that were still saved locally on my HDD and I was about to add them to one drive to present.

I hate corporate America.
