Was just hired to work fulltime (ThredUp) last Monday, and spent all of last week in training. Walk into a staff meeting yesterday morning, and they had tissue boxes stacked on the table… I knew immediately, because I've been through this 2 different times. The HR people they flew in said it was because of rising inflation they've decided to close an entire facility they just opened 6 months ago. when asked why they continued to hire people up to 6 days before the announcement, when they knew they were just going to let them go? Why not a hiring freeze? No good answer, just ” that's how it works sometimes”. MONTHS of weeding through jobs and a dozen interviews later, I'm back at square one.
I feel like this will be the first of many stories like this over the next year or so, particularly in the Southeast, where many companies have opened hundreds offices/facilities in the past few years. Its a never ending pile of corporate bullshit.
Just your daily reminder that your company does not give a shit about you, your time, or your wellbeing. I already lived by this fact for years, but its still frustrating when it happens again.
