Are they allowed to make you work with no AC if internal temps are over a certain temp?

Work for a local restaurant and the AC broke and we had to say the coolest it’s been all day I’d 85 degrees. One side of the restaurant are windows which have been open but it really doesn’t do much. I don’t know why they didn’t close
