I’ve had severe depression since I was in my teens. I’ve worked for the same company for 20+ years. I was off sick on long term disability due to a severe depressive episode for the past 2 years. I’ve battled my way back to work full time but I’m really struggling. I’ve requested an accommodation from my employer (via HR) to work from home because it helps with my symptoms. They keep saying no. They recently asked for more information from my doctor which is understandable and reasonable.
My doctor wrote a very thorough letter which even outlined the severity of my symptoms and explained that I was at a high risk of relapse which, in my case, could result in suicide. I’ve been totally transparent with my employer about my condition.
Want to know what HR said? My symptoms are “self reported” so they are disregarding my doctor’s advice. Request to work from home denied.
Anyone else have their employer absolutely disregard your doctor’s recommendations and basically call you a liar? I asked them if they were denying that I have a mental disability. They said they knew I had “struggles” and that they were there to help.
