Antiwork

5 years in and I think I am done.

I have worked for a company now for five years. I drive roughly an hour and a half to work one way. As i live 60 miles from my job. I have been through a lot of turn over in the 5 years i have worked here. I have also dealt with an immediate supervisor who was not a big fan of me. Then they started letting go people that were there for a long period of time. Like 10+ years to make room for the new employees. So I got a large promotion and doubled my pay pretty quickly. In year 2 they finally let my supervisor go and I took over our entire department. But the last two years have been terrible and havetaken a toll on my physical and mental health. The organization i work for is very much so a lets find out who to blame…

The organization i work for is very much so a lets find out who to blame instead of solving the problem kind of place. The closer I got to the owner and upper management I realized that they were all hard-core racists. Like dropping n words left and right, don't have a single manager that isn't white, etc. I wasn't raised that way so it has been a culture shock for me. So I started looking around at other jobs. Then I had a health crisis a couple months ago and was out for one week. I noticed while I was out they posted a job ad for my position on indeed. I also noticed Noone in upper management would speak to me. So I came back and they were upset that I was the only person who knew how to do my job other than the owner himself. However they slashed our hiring budget and would not allow me to hire anyone to train. So they put me on basically work probation while they found someone for me to train.

Then two weeks ago they restored my position and want me to continue to work and run the department myself. I have already gotten an offer to take a pay cut but go into a trade, an offer from the railroad and an offer from a few other companies. So I gave my two weeks notice. Then the owner brought me in and said he didn't understand where this was coming from so I told him with the current market and how much I am driving I am paying roughly 16000 dollars a year in gas and maintenance expenses for a vehicle and listed the issues I had above. After the conversation the owner offered a company vehicle, gas card and a small raise. However I feel like in the position I am currently in I have maxed out on what I can make at this job. I am only 28 and don't want to put myself in a box already. So I told him I would continue to do my job while he finds a replacement from home while working my other job to help them out. Now I think I am just going to cut ties and quit tomorrow. However I feel bad because I know what my coworkers are going to go through once I am not there. Which is absolute chaos. But I also feel like I need to finally put myself first. My wife and family don't care if I take a pay cut. They just want me to be happy.

Sorry for ranting just looking for some advice on what to do? I have talked to other people in my life but most of them said stay to make better money now, some said leave and invest in myself to make better money later. And some said just quit because they are racists asshats. Just would like to hear other people's stories that have been in this same boat. Thanks.
