I'm a government contractor and our employer is literally terrible. They just cut our pay, health insurance premiums skyrocketed, and now they want to implement tracking onto our timecard apps, via our phones. It's called geo-fencing, you cannot clock-in/out unless you're within a mile of the office, you have to keep your location enabled. You also have to clock-in at the exact minute of your hours, or it won't let you clock-in.
We just had a couple of people quit over it, and a bunch of others said they're going to quit too as soon as this is implemented. It's an effort to keep people from teleworking, two people were fired for unauthorized teleworking and now the rest of us are being punished.
This seems extremely unethical and illegal. How can our employer force us to install an app with location tracking on our personal phones? We have government cell phones too, but the employer does not pay for those. They are gov. funded. So I would imagine those are also off limits.
What can we do?? Do we have any recourse here?
