Is taking help shameful in modern industrial times?

I think the helping culture is going down. I remember how my grandmother used to tell me how there was a huge help culture back in the day. I see how people share great quotes on social media, but i notice how they ignore people needing next to them. Leaving aside financial help, people don't even want to listen to your troubles. Or seomtimes listen and then just ghost away. One poor man's picture went viral and everyone donated money to him. And nobody cares for poor around next lane/door. I don't entirely blame people, life is tough, everyone's out there to survival. Scarcity mindset has risen. Am i overthinking or is there any truth in this?
