employers need to accept that the traditional working day is dead

been at this job for about a month now. was glad to leave my old job where the boss outlawed any wfh or part time schedules. total control freak. but this new place has me confused. they’re fine with everyone having one wfh day a week and they’re fine with some people only working four days a week…. but apparently where they draw the line is starting your day at 8 and leaving at 4:30. instead they force us to start at 8:30 then leave at 5 which inevitably leads to being stuck in peak hour traffic…. why?! EDIT: just checked my contract and it actually says you’re able to work your 7.5 hours/day anywhere between 8am and 5.30pm. also I’ve literally seen other people at this company start early and leave early. but apparently there’s an “unspoken rule” that our department can’t do that.
