Antiwork

I work in admin at a nationwide accounting firm and am unsure if I’m being underpaid.

I’m in my mid 30s, went to college, have worked in an admin capacity for 12 or so years and have been with my firm for 6 years. I started out making around 42k which was more than I ever made (sadly). I’ve complained about my pay for years as it hasn’t matched up with nearby firms, have had some great people pushing for my pay and am now around 50k. Raises are scheduled for the second half of the year and my happy spot would be 55k. I’ve recently taken on a larger role and am getting involved in more leadership positions. I have a great mentor who is 100% on my side and will push (and has pushed) for better pay if needed. As with most administrative professionals, colleagues seem to be lost without you but also must make FAR more than you just because they aren’t admin…

I’ve recently taken on a larger role and am getting involved in more leadership positions. I have a great mentor who is 100% on my side and will push (and has pushed) for better pay if needed. As with most administrative professionals, colleagues seem to be lost without you but also must make FAR more than you just because they aren’t admin which makes them inherently better. Oh also I live and work in the Midwest in a mid-sized city.

I’ve researched pay but it’s tough because I don’t have a typical admin position. What do you think? On par or underpaid?
