I've worked at a small business for over a year and throughout my time there, my boss has treated me worse than other workers. I'm a young trans woman and he's an old man, but he's never brought up an issue with that, but I have felt some sexism. He constantly jokes about me not being good enough, and always tells me I'm doing things wrong when I'm just doing it differently than he would. He tells me almost every day to “think! do you know how to think? use your head!” and has implied that I'm stupid.
There have been many days when I will come home crying because I don't feel respected or feel valueless towards the business.
Today was the last straw. He asked me to do 3 different things at the same time, then got upset about how “easy” something was to do. He implied that I was stupid and I asked him, “Why do you have to be such as asshole?”, and he said, “Get out, you're fired” and I said, “why? why do you treat me like this?”
He said, “Because I'm the boss”. and I walked out and left my keys. Everyone just watched. Nobody said anything or stood up for me.
I cried for a long time because I love work and the people I work with. I just can't do it anymore for $15/hour. It's difficult manual labor and skilled tasks. I don't deserve to be treated like shit, no matter who's the boss. I deserve better.
I have a job interview for a salary job with benefits tomorrow, which would be double my current pay.
Don't work for people who treat you like shit.
