Manager denied me time to study for school, so I quit and left her begging for help

I’m in college with 18-19 credit hours per semester. I worked at this disgusting little clothing store and my manager was horrid. The pay was okay and that was all I stayed for. I worked in the largest department of the store with only four people. Most nights I closed alone because the manager refused to hire anyone to my department. I had a strict schedule and still do. I gave my supervisor a list of times and days I would be available. My manager would push those times and secretly add 30 minutes to my schedule every few weeks. My limit was 25 hours with Monday and Wednesday off. I always needed those two days off due to lab classes being late. If I needed Tuesday off for a doctors appointment or anything, they wouldn’t allow me to have three days off in a row. Manager said it was…

Manager said it was “unfair to my coworkers” but ironically enough my coworkers sometimes get 4 days off in a row. Slowly but surely my hours started to increase. 25 to 26 to 27 and then it jumped to 30. My final straw was April 20th. My manager loved to keep next weeks schedules hidden until the last minute, so I would simply sneak into the office and look at them. She had me working 39 hours with my one day off being Wednesday. This job already had me to my wits end. I constantly walked around with my two weeks notice written in my pocket. 6 months of hard work and this is how she treats me. I confronted her about it and she told me it’s because we are low on workers. Wonder whose fault that is. Later that day, she had my supervisor come and tell me that I need to choose between school and work and don’t need to be snooping in the office. The manager has the spine of an invertebrate and it is well known across the entire store that she will not confront you herself. She will leave passive aggressive notes and make comments to her favorite employees. I would say “workers” but her favorites don’t work. After this transpired I slapped my two weeks notice in my managers tray and went home. I had a double foot surgery and college finals coming up. I needed an entire week off for the surgery and I had already let them know a month in advance. My manager placed a note on our break room table telling us we can’t ask off for the last week of April and the first three weeks of may, the time of my surgery. She scheduled me to work the entire week of my surgery. I hadn’t used any of my sick days (10) so I happily used them to call out everyday except one. I knew she always worked Friday. I showed up in a double cast and crutches, waddled up to her in the break room and said “I’m ready to work!!” She didn’t find it as funny as I did. My last week there she hired 6 people in my place. Every single person she hired in my place has quit and they have resorted to begging and bribing people to come in for interviews. She has called me three times since I’ve quit and I don’t exactly plan on answering. Amazing how awful and heartless these people can be.
