I'm an Enrolled Nurse in Australia (LPN in US I think?) I work at a busy regional Hospital where I'm contracted for 6 shifts a fortnight (every 2 weeks) but regularly do 11 or 12 due to being short staffed. I'm paid just over $33 per hour.
I got headhunted by a company who employ nurses to care for people in the home. I had a very short interview in which they said that they weren't sure what the pay was as they'd never hired an enrolled Nurse before, only RNs but assured me it was over $50 per hour.
I accepted this position as I'm currently building a house and every cent helps. I completed the mountain of onboarding paperwork and got my NDIS Worker Screening check which costs $120 and started training shifts with the patient at a hospital in the city.
My first paycheck arrived and I was paid $52.75per hour as abase rate and was happy. The following week my payslip said that I only got $45.67. I called the company and very politely asked wtf? They informed that I had been paid RN rates instead of EN rates and that I don't have to worry about paying back the extra money I received.
I then sent an email describing my disappointment and told them (politely) that they need me more than I need them (the patient is currently only in hospital because there aren't enough nurses to fill a roster for home care.
I told them that I only accepted a SECOND job for the compensation and that I might as well just work more shifts at the hospital.
They obviously freaked out and said that they were open to giving me a payrise to keep me on and asked what rate I would like. I told them I wanted $56.60 per hour and they counter offered $52.75 per hour which I accepted and have now got them to agree to be paid retrospectively for the past 4 weeks working for them.
TLDR: negotiated a higher pay with some labour hire company.
