Please don't be too harsh if it seems like I'm overreacting, I genuinely don't know what to think/feel here.
Wondering if I should go to HR or something about this. Today my manager essentially told me that unless I'm willing to stay longer / past my shift , then I won't get promoted to full time and “maybe ___ is not for you”. I didn't stay longer (4+ hours longer) than my originally scheduled 8:30 hrs shift the other day. But I have come in earlier ( including TODAY bc this same manager had asked me to) switched shifts with someone, etc. since starting at this job. I've been here for almost 2 months and she still felt the need to say this to me.
Said this industry is all about “change”. Like okay sure. But bc I said no one time, the industry is not for me? Its literally just retail. I've worked in other retail places and no one has said that to me ever if I denied extra hours or declined staying longer. It has been bothering me ALL DAY and I'm so tempted to say something but I don't know if that will just make my life worse.
Otherwise really like my job . My co workers are great and they have said this manager has been known to say things to people and not realize how she's coming off.
My other option is I guess to confront this same manager?
I'm already at my job 5 days a week as a part timer. I'm rarely late and I haven't called out once yet.
Idk what I think HR could do but it almost feels like retaliation against me for not saying yes to something.
