Question about retirement for our American counterparts

Hi everyone, I was thinking about planning for my retirement recently and I've been thinking about all the things I need to plan for. One thing I thought about was how you guys plan for health care in the US with having no universal health care? Since you would no longer be working and thefore wouldn't have employment health insurance does that mean you have to have cash on hand for emergencies? Or do you still have to factor in money for your own insurance into your pension? If so how much more money does this add to your retirement funds?
