Nothing like working in Healthcare to confirm that privatized insurance shouldn’t exist

I realize concepts such as this have been explained to death, but I wanted to share given my position. I’ve been working for one of the world’s largest private health insurance companies for about a month now. The more I learn about the business, the more radicalized I become against systems that allow businesses like this to exist. We talk at length in our company about our collective desire to help people get the care they need, which is great! And I genuinely believe that the people I work with want to help people. However, I experience significant cognitive dissonance knowing that the logical extent of that goal is the elimination of private, paid insurance such as ours. I enjoy my job, and I get a sense of pride being able to help people navigate their benefits and receive treatment they need. That said, there should be nothing to navigate.…

Is anyone else in the same boat with their respective careers? What do you do to reconcile pride in your work with the fact that your work, conceptually, shouldn’t exist?
