Tldnr first: pushing back on new corporate overlords but existing manager REALLY actually likes me so trying her hardest to get me to stop “stirring the pot”…
Timeline time.
Last Dec, literally the day I was going to ask for a raise since the pandemic, they announce we’ve just been sold to Corporate Animal hospital. I hold off for a bit. (I had a huge part in streamlining curbside and working 3 people’s jobs solo through all this, come to find out my old salary already locked in.)
From the start, make it painfully clear I don’t know if I’m going to stay with this new overlord.
Got a great thing going, but let’s get the pot on a low simmer.
Corporate:”we like how y’all operate, promise no changes…”
ELEVENTY SEVEN changes later, and thanks to this community…
This pot needs a stir.
Start openly speaking out on anti-work ideas.
“Crazy, we never have applicants yet there are hundreds of similar job postings in this area”
-many other examples I could go into but you get it.
Others seem scared. Don’t want to loose this job but cmon! Wtf?! SO MANY PLACES THAT WANT US!
Talking points:
Underpaid, overworked, breaks cut short due to over scheduling despite already being short staffed…
List goes on.
On a whim I schedule an interview and get an immediate offer. Well shit, absolutely nothing left to loose I guess.
Tons of other stuff later I’ll fast forward. Boss pulls me aside; “I know you have more availability than you told me, I know you’ve got offer elsewhere…”
…and?
“If it were anyone else I’d say take the offer. You have a great thing going here, stop stirring the pot!”
Mk bet.
Newer hires I’ve trained who came on with previous exp somehow found out how much more I make than them. Pissed. Now threatening to leave but we’re corporate now so pay is no longer up to manager – it’s up to corporate.
…we all got locked in at current salaries
…we’re losing 2 techs at the end of the week already
I’ve already a foot out the door; if we loose even a single more person, ship gonna sink. Can’t operate without anyone to operate 😉
I’m just gonna keep riding this wave and see what goes down. Literally nothing to loose. Rare case nowadays I hear.
