Took the first job I was offered out of college. Engineering gig at a smaller startup (<20 people). Been full-time for ~2 years. Needed to stay local after graduation as my wife is still in school. Company culture is not ideal, and my new manager does not have the interpersonal skills to be a good manager. I’m trying to get experience under my belt for the resume, and there is a decent probability of an acquisition in the next year. Payout (from accrued stock options that payout immediately in case of acquisition) could be $90k-$350k.

My concern is that I will struggle to overcome the negativity while working here. I’m also worried that I will have some form of ptsd from some interactions I’ve had, and will likely continue to have, as I wait for an acquisition.

I grew up poor, my mom was a first gen college grad.. I’m set on riding this wave until we get acquired or I get at least 3 years of experience as an engineer here.

With that being said, how do you stay focused and disregard the bullshit? How do you rise above the challenges of terrible coworkers? Did you leave a job and find it still had an effect on how you acted/reacted in a new environment? Did you utilize therapy to help you move past things?

What are your thoughts?
