Friendly reminder to those who feel overworked due to “staffing changes”

To those who feel the need to work OT because you wanna help out your boss because theyve lost so many people or even just one: Managers are responsible for hiring people based on the requirements they want. They are responsible for picking the most qualified employee — which isnt just if they can do the job, but if they fit in with the culture etc. They are responsible for communicating expectations and creating a friendly, collaborative environment where open, constructive communication is valued. Employees who have great relationships with their bosses will be honest and upfront about their career projections, and management will do what they can to meet said goals (even if it means the employee leaving). If your comp/org has a high turnover, that's a red flag that it sucks and people hate it there. Regardless if it is, they should be prepared to hire new people. This should not be a surprise to management. It's literally their fucking job.

Managers get paid more for a reason — they aren't doing grueling bitch work but the impact their actions have are paramount. Don't ever feel like it's YOUR problem to solve the staffing issue by working OT. It is not YOUR job to make life easier for you, it's theirs. If they can't do that, then you need to find a place (or a different career) that will.
