Oh so PetSmart REALLY needs to unionize

First time poster but I really feel the need to vent about how bad this company is on the inside. I should preface this by saying that I(25m) actually really like my job and the work that goes into it. I take care of a variety of different pets and sell them to genuinely the nicest kinds of people. The real issue is that I work in Atlanta, and they dont pay more than 11 an hour for the work I put in. Around February, covid restrictions in my store were lifted, along with masks mandates. Last week I contracted covid 19, and informed my Store manager, where I was swiftly booted from working for the next week.

The con to this is that in the store i work, benefits are only awarded to those who make full time hours, and only managers get full time hours. Sick time is under benefits. So when I contracted covid due to these lack of policies in our store, I was removed from work without pay for a week.

Im already living paycheck to paycheck, and I know this is what is going to be my undoing. I had to spend around 500 dollars just for medicine, doctor visits etc, and now my rent is an unachievable goal. I more than likely am going to be homeless due to this companies policies.

The worst part is that they have a quarterly review program called SMART (our store manager left the review in our clock in room), and while i do not know too much about it, i was able to discern that storewide we were able to bring in over 2.5 million last year before profit. Knowing how few people work in this store and our average mark up on an item is between 65-75%, meaning they clearly have enough money to give everyone full time, benefits, and a 50%raise going forward, but they simply don't.

Also just fun to throw in there, The quarterly reviews also show turnover rates, which are at around 92% for employees through a year of work, and 38% for retention past 3 months. MAnagement however, has a 0% turn over rate.

This isn't the first job i wanted, but for the amount that the store brings in, its borderline criminal how poorly they treat their employees.
