My supervisor refuses to let me step down

I have been with this company for over a year now and the workload has been absolutely insane. Six months ago, I let my supervisor know that it was becoming too much and I didn't want to start letting my work go and have other people clean up after me, so I asked to step down. She said that she would help me out and we would reevaluate the next month. I have been with this company for over a year now and the workload has been absolutely insane. Six months ago, I let my supervisor know that it was becoming too much and I didn't want to start letting my work go and have other people clean up after me, so I asked to step down. She said that she would help me out and we would reevaluate the next month. Next month came and went, I mentioned it to her, and was ignored. 3 months later I brought it up again and she suddenly told me “our company doesn't allow people to step down.”

I've been trying to stay above water to no avail since February when she told me this, and today I reached out to her supervisor to try and get some help with the issue. She told me that since I wasn't meeting job expectations at my current position, that she doesn't think I could meet expectations at a lower position.

I have been a manager at many different places, I have over 10 years in customer service and retail environments, and I have never worked for a company that didn't want to PAY ME LESS and allow me to step down. I absolutely want to leave this job, but I have a lot of proof that I have been asking to step down with no help from supervisors or HR. If I'm let go, do I have a chance to get unemployment? The company I work for is located in a different state and I work strictly remotely, not sure if that would effect anything.
