Apparently I can’t use my PTO for my surgery leave. Devastated.

They didn’t tell me this. I never knew this was a thing. I sent them an email in December giving them notice that March 24th I was having intensive surgery and was going to be out 4 weeks, 2 weeks back on light duty. I never got a response to that email, just my supervisor saying “he got it”. For about a week now Ive been trying to get a hold of them and get on the same page with them because we hadn’t really been talking about it. My supervisor was assuming I wasn’t coming back after leaving EVEN THOUGH in that email I gave them the literal exact date I’d be back. Tonight I told her to meet with me and I asked if we could get it all figured out. She basically told me this: They wont let me use my PTO if Im going for medical…

She basically told me this:

  1. They wont let me use my PTO if Im going for medical leave. No elaboration. She just said it would be a hard no and that this is just company policy. She said “how do you think we feel when we wanna take off but gotta give a 90 day notice?” I respond “thats exactly what I did!”

  2. That they, literally, just assumed I wasn’t coming back. She admitted. I said “if that was the case why would I give you my date of return”. She couldn’t answer.

  3. She mocked me for expecting help from my boss (the only one who handles PTO) and said the process is “really simple”. Im 21 and this is only my second job. I didnt know the whole process and we dont have any paperwork with this policy on it.

This is after denying me a raise, too. I saved up that PTO the whole year and didn’t take it because I needed it while I was out for surgery. It was pretty much the only reason I stayed. That was its purpose. Now out if no where Im being told its for “vacations only”. Im a month out and cant find a job that will just be okay with letting me go in a month. No where will take me in. Im stuck here.

Im absolutely crushed and devastated crying in the fucking bathroom while im typing this. That was my food money for that month. That was all I was gonna have. It was only like 23 hours. Ill have no income for 4-6 weeks. I dont know what the fuck to do

Editting for more context now that Ive poked around the office and found the “new employee survival kit” that they give out to new hires. Ive blocked out only my name and my company name. (Im not against naming and shaming- im just not trying to jeopardize my situation or make it any worse than it is)

Here is a imgur album containing the OG email i sent, the single piece of paper that regards our sick time and time off, and their absence request sheet. No where does it state that an employee cant use PTO for med leave.

Where I may get myself fucked is in this original email I did not specifically mention PTO, just med leave. At the time I was hoping to get a response from my boss for the okay or something so I could follow up with him. This is probably where they will get me.

The third image is their absence request, which mentions that abensece leaves, other than sick leave, must be submitted 30 days in advance. Its why ive been trying so hard to get to them for a week- i figured that 30 day policy was applicable to my situation and i was nearing the borderline of it and wanted to get that shit sorted.
