I am expected to come into work, goto my computer, sign in to three apps, then 4 more, then at my shift start time, hit a main sign in.
The mainsign in takes about 2 minutes to set up, then work starts. I am expected to do about 5-8 minutes of sign in on work equiptment and set up my work area. Before I clock in. I brought this up to my manager, and they made every excuse why this is ok. “Well its standard you be ready to work the secons you clock in. Its like hanging up your coat when you get home. And I am fine with that, but I said, “thats my coat, yeah I hang it up. But this is work systems, and generally, I am being asked to do work before signing in. I understand that is the status quo, but it does not make it right. 10 minutes a shift, 5 days a week, 50 days a year, adds up.”
Today I have a meeting with hr and a manager. I was also confused about pay – I had a project go longer than my finish time twice in two weeks (its normal) but no pay. I asked why, considering I signed out at a later time, and they said I have to email a specific department to get the pay, but since the pay period has passed, I cannot get it.
So in total – work is not paying me for work before shift, and the time spent working after the schedules shift (still signed in).
Is this normal? Canada company called Nordia.
