So I applied to a job as a senior graphic designer and was sent follow up emails for this company before even getting an interview opportunity asking me to take a personality test that consisted of basic math and metaphors for the first 45 minute one, and a quiz to see what role I would best fit in for the company (15 mins) despite applying to a very specific job.
So I emailed their HR person asking if I could ask them some questions and when she said yes so I replied with this:
“Hello,
I'm wondering why I would take a 45 minute test, unpaid, as the first step of an application for a job in which I would not even be guaranteed to have an interview for? Especially considering the job climate and knowing the fact people are applying to multiple jobs. This is incredibly ridiculous to waste peoples' time in such a way and tells me your company just wants desperate people to work for you so you can treat them poorly and get away with it because they have no other options. Not to mention I was sent another “quiz” to take that supposedly would highlight what role I would best fill, despite applying for one role. I hope you realize people who are worth your time are not going to take an hour worth of quizzes. I also started this one and it was a test of metaphors. How in any way would this make me qualified to do graphic design for your company? I hope your HR team seriously reevaluates the waste of time it's putting people through. I cannot fathom why your company thinks this is appropriate practice for hiring in a “senior” position.
Thank you for your time.
Enjoy your day.”
