Asking for a day off

I asked for a day off from work next Friday. I didn't tell HR why I wanted it, but requested it letting them know I was willing to work a half day if there was a big workload that day. The HR lady responded saying she was “confused” as to why I would ask for a day off. We get Monday off for 4th of July and this would mean I get a 3-day work week. I am only there for a 2 month internship and she thinks I am not “using my time appropriately.” Little does she know I work 10 hour days even though I am only expected to work 8. The HR lady responded saying she was “confused” as to why I would ask for a day off. We get Monday off for 4th of July and this would mean I get a 3-day work week. I am only there for a 2 month internship and she thinks I am not “using my time appropriately.”

Little does she know I work 10 hour days even though I am only expected to work 8. I come into work at least an hour early. I skip lunch most days. I honestly feel like I'm being racially profiled as a Mexican. She even went out of her way to ask the other intern if our workloads we're being distributed equally because she didn't think I was picking up enough hours.

I'm speaking to the office administrator tomorrow about this, the person right above her. Wish me luck.
