A few red flags and questions

Okay, I've had 3 interviews with a particular company. I'm very hopeful an offer will be made based on these interviews. Even though the first two interviews went well, I had another scheduled somewhere else. It was for less pay but we're in a bad financial situation and the difference isn't that different, but we all know those extra dollars count. The week of Thanksgiving, I had the interview with the second company. I was told I'd hear back from them by the end of Wednesday. The week of Thanksgiving, I had the interview with the second company. I was told I'd hear back from them by the end of Wednesday.

Today, I had that 3rd interview with the first company. It went GREAT. During this interview, I received a phone call. My phone was on silent, so I didn't receive until after.

It was a call from the second company, asking if I'd found work. I found this….interesting. I took my time calling back, and left a message for a return call.

They called, and I had a few questions. At first, he wanted to just speak about if I needed work, I mentioned I have a few offers at the moment. Then immediately I asked, “What happened?” He knew, I assume, I was referring to the other hire who clearly had lost her job.

This man went off on how she couldn't keep up, she seemed great in the interview, but he was tough and she couldn't handle it. I asked him to explain that – he mentioned she relied too much on notes and not on hands on work. I mentioned I take copious notes, he cut me off and mentioned that wouldn't be allowed. I'd need to memorize everything. How the spa works. How the system to schedule works within the company, the rotation, everything.

I told him I needed time to consider everything and I'd be back to him on Friday. He mentioned he would put up another ad on Indeed (I'm wondering now if he was hedging bets, but I just encouraged him to do so at the time. More because I was really hopeful for the first job.)

So, antiwork. Let me ask you, would you ignore these red flags? While my family is definitely in need of money, I'm sooooooooo hesitant to accept a position with company B.

Let's say I get an offer from company A. Should I wait until 4:45 pm on Friday to send a cold email, like I received? If I don't receive the offer and need to consider option b, would you exploit their clear need to ask for more pay?
