I worked for a start up. I was initially hired on as a tech support role but I was asked to do many different things because ya know…we were a small team and we all wore different hats to help the company grow.
Shipping support, sales, working with the dev team to resolve bugs, social media, Kickstarter, etc. You name it in a start up, I did it. I worked my ass off putting in so much overtime because I wanted to help the company succeed and grow.
Today after a meeting where we were being trained on some new protocols, my manager messaged me asking if we can chat real quick. I figured it was to go over new protocols. But no, I was told I’m being let go due to “budget cuts” effective immediately. And told “there’s a lot of jobs out there hiring so you’ll be fine”
Biggest f u I’ve ever experienced. I missed weddings, life events, vacations, etc. so I could work weekends and extra hours to help this company get ahead. They took out PPP loans, raised over 4 million on Kickstarter, had millions in sales, and no one got any raises within the last two years while the CEO and COO went to Hawaii for a company trip to “bring in social media awareness”
Fuck these capitalists. Don’t put your life experiences on hold to slave away for someone else so they can live their life to the fullest. I learned this the hard way, don’t be a fool like myself.
