A little rant about how terrible my job is.

I've worked for said company for 5 years. I have perfect attendance besides PTO which I am legally entitled to. I work 3rd shift industrial Maintenance technician for a medium sized injection molding facility. I work 6-7 days a week, with my longest streak being 123 days in a row. I have saved the company money by making numerous safety, material handling, and repair suggestions. My boss has praised me as one of his best Maintenance technicians. Now you're probably wondering, where is the rant? The company moves an employee from dayshift to 3rd. He was brand new and trained on days for 3 months. Once he got to 3rd shift he was given $20 an hour more than I currently make besides the fact I have more seniority and experience. The company moves an employee from dayshift to 3rd. He was brand new and trained on days for 3 months. Once he got to 3rd shift he was given $20 an hour more than I currently make besides the fact I have more seniority and experience. Even worse, he clocks in, and goes home to bed, to return at the end of the shift to clock out. He gets paid to go home and sleep. Leaving me busting my butt every day working.

He has been caught numerous times but it's only a slap on the wrist. Under normal circumstances, I would have quit. But I actually live close to my job, and I am comfortable where I'm at. Especially with gas being outrageously expensive.

Friday I hit my 5th anniversary with the company. I had my review with my boss, the VP of operations, the plant manager, and the President. They had nothing but positive things to say about me on my review. They then passed me a folded sticky note with my wage increase. I'm being totally honest, I make $19/per hour, which is already drastically underpaid for a maintenance technician. So I was really banking on having a decent pay raise considering how high the company held me. I unfolded the paper and saw my raise. $0.32. Thirty two freaking cents!

The VP looked me in the eye and said “Well earned, keep up the good work”. I'm usually not the person who likes confrontation or showing anger, but this enraged me so much I had to speak up. I told them “You realize that gas increased more than that last night, right?” They all gave me disgusted looks and said I should be grateful for the job I have. I make only a dollar more per hour than operators who have an easy job. But the slacker, worthless, worm of a coworker gets paid way more than me to go home and go to bed.. I tendered my resignation right on the spot. So now I'm banking on my PTO to survive until I find a new job.

TLDR: Company hires lazy pos employee who makes way more than I do, and company shafts me on raise.
