Allow to introduce myself. I'm a hardworking, 54yo, Australian male.
I work for a business that manages unit complexes.
I am the groundsman/maintenance person at 2 of said complexes, one of which consists of 113 units, the second is 55 units.
I live in the managers residence at the smaller complex, and do enjoy a rent discount compared to market rates.
I take care of all the gardens, lawns, pool, tennis courts etc at both complexes, with no help from anyone else.
I work hard to make both complexes look good as well as taking care of tenants needs repairing and maintaining leaky tap, broken hinges, etc
I've recently had a health scare with the return of Cancer in my body and have had to take time off for treatments and doctor's visits.
I've been trying to do as many hours as I can to support my children, I'm also a single dad with three kids.
I've told my employers of my health situation and they have been mostly positive, and I explained that the kids need to be fed, taken care of so if they could not take my rent out of my pay for a couple of weeks until I can get healthy and catch up, I would be most grateful.
So, today is payday and they sent me a payslip with $0 being paid to me and the hours I have managed to do taken out as rent.
I rang my boss and asked him and said he never agreed to my request.
I told him that my children need to be fed, and housed.
He was sorry but said rent was more important.
I'm now unemployed……and soon to be homeless.
I'm not writing this for any type of pity….I just need to vent
