I'm a salaried store manager at an oil change place. I make decent money and I am very good at my job, jumping from the entry to store manager in little over a year. I make 26 an hour if I work 40 or 16 an hour if I work the 50 I'm supposed to.
We just got a new Area Manager whom has no experience in the business and has already hired other people he knows who also have no experience to run stores we didn't have managers for.
After this big trip to Boston and a managers class he feels like he's on top of the world. He came to my store and was completely disrespectful to me. “You need to call me if you're running late, I don't run this store you do.” I'd been up all night throwing up I still came in it was just 2 hours late so I wouldn't fall asleep on my 1 and half hour drive to work.
“Uniforms here are a joke. I sent someone home because they were wearing sweatpants.” Under different circumstances I'd agree but this kid was poor and couldn't afford new pants till his actual uniforms came in.
“You need more training in inventory. You were out of this oil and the system said you were not out.” The other Acting area manager in our district knew of the issue, it wasn't a inventory issue it was a issue I had already fixed with a new employee a couple of weeks prior and I told him this.
“You don't need to be off two days in a row you have to be off on Sundays and whatever other day isn't the weekend, Monday, or Friday.” My assistant is devout in his religion and has asked for sunday's off. Same with my assistant in training. I said this to him and he said, word for word, “find new assistants who can work on Sundays because you shouldnt be working them.”
I'm gonna start working 6 days so they can have their days off and currently looking to move to a different store closer to me or find closer work. My store is the best store because of how busy it is, it doubles almost every other store in the district and I drive an hour and a half to get here. I do not get paid enough to do this, deal with 50 oil changes a day and to deal with the big head of this managers who's only been in the business for 2 months.
