Honestly, I feel a sense of isolation from the rest of the antiwork community here on reddit and abroad. Ive never done things with unions, strikes, silent quitting or arguments. I do them my way. Yes I agree, i was a terrible employee when i was 18 and threw away a few good job oppportunities. But out of 15 jobs Ive worked in the past 6 years? Yeah, not all have been my fault. Examples as follow:
1.When a restaurent wasnt paying me a living wage as a dishwasher. I quit with a two weeks and got a bussing job.
2.When a restaurent sliced my hours from 5 days down to one, i didnt give them a 2 weeks. I just said goodbye.
3. When a restaurent tried to make me work more then 9 days, i refused to show up for the 10th and told them to fire me if it was a big deal. They didn't fire me.
4.when a restaurent tried to make me work on my unpaid half an hour break with a short staff, i quit without a two weeks.
5.when a restaurent cut my pay in half without any consolidation, i pulled my first no call no show. They broke my door down and the cops took there side.
My point, i have all the respect for union and strike people. Do what works Is all Im saying. Im in an industry thats over flowing with empty job seats and piss poor management. So with a little BS in the hiring process Im able to hop easily from one job to another. I like it because I can go solo, i dont need to be part of a union team. But if you like being part of a union team, do it. Do what will give you the job you deserve.
Im starting my 16th restaurent job in 3 days. I really like this location, wish me luck for this to be my home job for a while. A man gets tired of roaming, i guess thats another good reason for a union. Easier to hold a position. I want stable work, I hope Ive found it. But Im always ready to hit the road If needed. Thats my piece. Good luck out there people.
