Antiwork

A tricky situation.

I thought this would fit here and maybe spark some fire under some people. Me and my fiance just moved into a new house recently where me and her , and her best friend live together to make ends meet. We don't have a car right now and work nearby at a local ma and pa deli because we don't have a car yet. Now I am retired navy CS with alot of mass quantity cooking experience working in this ma and pa deli, where when I got hired I was told how hard work and experience will get you far here yada yada bullcrap. Been here since January and I haven't gotten a raise and I cook all the food for the hot line as well as do 90 % of the deep cleaning around here. Have been highly regarded by customers as an amazing cook and that this place does not pay me enough. (Which they don't it's low.)
On top of all the crap that goes on with favoritism and whatnot, my fiance worked the front counter where she would serve food to customers, and then worked her way up to a meat prep position and then worked herself up to a bakery position now doing something she loves. She gets paid less than I do. Yet they still take her constantly and have her work all these different positions, and have offered nothing in return and it's stressing her out, and I can't do much except trying to work to get car so we can get better jobs, but at this point it seems like it'll be forever. How do you crawl out of this situation where you are being worked into the dirt for poverty wages but can't escape? The lesson here is never believe anything that you are told about pricing yourself at work, it's usually a giant scam. Hope this helps someone down the road and maybe someone could offer some wisdom.
