I feel like one of the main reasons people don't want to do a general strike is because we don't have any guarantees we are joining a coordinated movement. We only want to act when others act, which creates a paradox of indecision.
I was reading recently about the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (CGP Grey explains it well here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUX-frlNBJY) which basically is an agreement to subvert the electoral college where no state acts until enough states are on board for it to make a difference.
So what if we did the same for a general strike? They say a strike of only 2% of the workforce would cripple the economy. So what if we got people to sign on for a general strike, and then we all strike at once when we get enough of the workforce to sign on to grind the economy to a halt? Then no one has to act until we know for sure we have enough support behind the movement for it to work.
What are thoughts on this? Could this work as a way to organize without as much risk?
