I've been without work for a few years after getting a few horrible jobs that really took advantage of me and treated me horribly while I was homeless, discriminating against me, etc. I've had dozens of interviews during these few years, all of them lost for reasons completely out of my control that had absolutely nothing to do with me or my ability to do the jobs, almost a hilarious amount of bad luck here. I'm talking like CTO up and quitting during my interview process at 3 different companies, publishers pulling out during my interview, kind of hilariously bad luck.
This new job comes with full benefits, pretty high pay (20k higher than my initial quote to them), more PTO than I can ever imagine using, remote, and doing my favorite thing. Luck finally worked out for me. The best part is the company is supposedly really good, a good friend of mine used to work there and had nothing but great things to say, even calling my new boss the best boss he's ever had, he left for more money at another offer and put my name up as an option to fill his position with a great recommendation upon leaving, enough that they came to me, I didn't even need to apply.
Feels great to finally get some good luck in the job market after nothing but shit jobs for 15 years. Professional contacts in your industry who respect your work are so important, so get out there and network!
